Allergic conjunctivitis is characterized by bilateral red eye with associated itching, eyelid swelling, and eye discharge. It occurs when the patient is exposed to an allergen and may associated with other allergic diagnoses such as nasal allergies, congestion, asthma or eczema. Episodes are usually short lived and can be treated with anti-histamine or steroid eye drops.
