Epiblepharon

Epiblepharon

Epiblepharon is defined by the upward projection of lashes of the lower eyelid toward the cornea. This finding tends to occur most commonly in Asian or Hispanic children and can be bilateral. Typically this condition is asymptomatic but can be associated with foreign body sensation, redness, irritation and tearing. Fortunately, epiblepharon usually resolves spontaneously as the child’s face develops. In rare circumstances, surgery can be done to the eyelid skin to treat this condition if symptoms are severe.
