Dr. Shawn Gappy is an ophthalmologist specializing in pediatric eye disease and adult strabismus (ocular misalignment). A native metro Detroiter, Dr. Gappy graduated valedictorian of his high school class at Orchard Lake St. Mary’s and then spent his next 12 years in Detroit: majoring in biological sciences at Wayne State University, receiving his medical degree (MD) at the Wayne State University School of Medicine, and completing his internship and ophthalmology residency at Henry Ford Hospital. He then did an additional year of fellowship training in pediatric ophthalmology and adult strabismus at the University of Michigan Kellogg Eye Center.
Dr. Gappy established Central Eye Care, P.C. in 2018 with an emphasis on managing all types of pediatric eye disease and adult strabismus. As as service to the community, Dr. Gappy also provides comprehensive eye care for adults with a concentration on cataract, diabetic eye disease, age-related macular degeneration, and glaucoma. Dr. Gappy is board certified with the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO) and is an active member of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) and the American Association for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Strabismus (AAPOS). With affiliations with the Beaumont Health System, Children’s Hospital of Michigan, Ascension Health System, and Trinity Health System, Dr. Gappy is fully integrated within the medical community in metro Detroit to provide great collaborative care with local pediatricians and other primary care providers. Outside of the clinic, Dr. Gappy enjoys spending time with his wife and two young sons. He is a Detroit sports fanatic and hopes to see the Detroit Lions win the Super Bowl during his lifetime.
